Abstract
Duckweeds are highly reduced flowering plants with a simplified body plan. A new study reveals that the duckweed frond retains ancestral organ identities despite compression and fusion. Together with previous evidence of root loss, these findings highlight distinct evolutionary routes to plant miniaturization.
