The ion gene and degradation of beta-galactosidase nonsense fragments

Shineberg, B., Zipser, D. (December 1973) The ion gene and degradation of beta-galactosidase nonsense fragments. J Bacteriol, 116 (3). pp. 1469-71.

Abstract

N-terminal beta-galactosidase fragments are rapidly degraded in growing cells of Escherichia coli. Mutations in the lon gene are sufficient to enhance the stability of these polypeptides.
