Abstract

Gene expression is regulated extensively at the post-transcriptional level. The fundamental steps of eukaryotic RNA processing have been characterized in great detail, but knowledge of how the disruption of these processes contributes to human disease has only recently begun to emerge. This was the main theme of the EMBO Workshop on Pre-mRNA Processing and Disease held at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, in the magnificent surroundings of the Dolomites.
