It was previously reported that the outer membrane proteins are assembled more slowly than the cytoplasmic membrane proteins of simular MW. The slower rate of assembly of the outer membrane proteins may be due to a slower rate of synthesis of outer membrane proteins, the rate of synthesis being the rate-limiting step in the assembly process.
