Abstract

At any one time, a cell transcribes only a small subsetof all the genes in its genome. To provide specificity tothe regulation of transcription, each cell relies on the assembly of particular sets or combinations of transcriptionfactors on different promoters. Through such combinatorial mechanisms, individual transcription factors can acquire different activities depending on the presence or absence of other coregulators in the same cell, thus reducingthe total number of regulators needed to control cellulartranscription...
